Chess
The game of Chess originates from very old Indian and Persian games; the current form of it emerged in Southern Europe in the fifteenth century. The game is played by two players, each of which have sixteen pieces. Each type of piece can move across the board in its own way, the idea is to manoeuvre your pieces into a position which the opponent's king can't escape from. Checkers
Checkers is played on a board of 64 squares by two players. Each player has 12 pieces which they can move diagonally forwards on the board. The idea is to capture all your opponent's pieces by jumping over them. A player's piece can become a king by reaching the opposite end of the board; this means that the piece can now move both forwards and backwards. Gin Rummy
Gin Rummy is a simple and popular two player card game. Played with a standard deck of cards, the idea is to score more points than your opponent. Each player is dealt ten cards and you get points by building hands which contain either sets or runs. The game continues until there are only 2 cards left in the un-dealt pack. Billiards
There are many games of Billiards; however all of them have a number of things in common. They are ball games played on a table, the aim in each is to strike the cue ball and for it to then hit another ball into one of the table's pockets. Sudoku
In recent years Sudoku has become one of the most popular number logic games of all time. The game is played on a grid of 9 by 9 squares. Some of the squares will have numbers in, the rest blank. The aim is to fill in all the squares with the numbers 1 to 9 so that every column, row and 3 by 3 square contains each number just once. The game is won once all squares have been filled.
